IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital to host Community LGBTQ Healthcare Seminar

IU Health Ball Memorial will host its Community LGBTQ Healthcare Seminar from 5:30 pm to 7 pm on July 18, 2017 in the Indiana Room at Minnetrista. Juan Carlos Venis, MD, and Quay Kester, PhD, diversity learning consultant with IU Health Office for Diversity and Inclusion, will discuss lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) access to healthcare and health education. The seminar will conclude with an open forum for questions and discussion.

“Our Patients First culture means that we are committed to inclusive care for every patient and guest,” states Vice President of Human Resources for Indiana University Health’s East Central Region Ann McGuire. “We continue to provide access to quality, compassionate healthcare for our LGBTQ patients and community members. By hosting this seminar, we are offering an opportunity to educate our patients and our community and answer questions about LGBTQ healthcare.”

In April 2017, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital earned its “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality” designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Nationwide, only 300 healthcare providers earned the “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality” designation. Only two hospitals in Indiana earned the designation.
